Dipitity Do Da Day

Dipity has been quite a lot of fun with surprising uses. Initially, I though Dipity would be a tool mainly to timeline historical periods or as a timeline in lives. What I didn't count on was using it as not just a student tool but as a teachers tool as well.

The Epithany

Whilst contemplating an historical event or situation that would relate to English literature, I had an eptithany. Could this tool be used to create a lesson plan or unit of work? The answer is a resounding, yes. Dipity assisted in my plotting a timeline for a unit of work, consistent within the area of English. Students can access what the teacher has developed and gain tips on, in this case, creating a scary narrative. The teacher can outline each lesson, attach research material or tips on how-to...

What surprised my the most was how easy it was to create and to upload on my blog. I suspect this was due to my growing capabilities in ITC use. What this shows is that technologies are translatable. The other words, the skills or functions in one technology can be applied to another.

As a tool, I would use Dipity within the classroom, simply because the more I reflect on it the more applications it has.

My only criticism would be that I tried to upload YouTube videos and other videos and it would not allow. Normally this would not be an issue but the program has the capacity for uploading videos. Having a working video tool not only allows access to instructional videos but student work could be displayed.

Plus:   Authentic tool for learning and teaching. Keeps students on track as they can see where they should be at. Dipity is a tool for the "real world". As students enter the work force this a tool to manage time frames  within a business capacity, keep track of process, etc. Easy to use. Is a tool that can be use collaboratively.

Minus: Video application did not work.

Interesting: Application as an instructional tool. Is a flexible tool that allows for different perceptions and learning styles.

In conclusion, Dipity is a timeline tool that tells a story. As a technology, its applications are translatable across many disciplines from eduction and business to police investigation. Anything that requires a time frame can be structured and drafted in Dipity.
